Supreme Court on Wednesday ordered for setting up of a 5 judge constitution bench to hear the whatsapp privacy case. The hearing will take place on April 18.

Earlier on January 17, the apex court issued a notice to whatsapp and central government on data privacy. The court also agreed to examine as to whether Facebook’s access to details of calls, messages, photographs and documents exchanged by whatsapp users violated citizen’s right to privacy.

It may be mentioned that a petition filed before the SC had claimed that there is no protection of data on facebook and whatsapp.
