The global award winner from Manipur does it again! Urmila Chanam, a global campaigner on women’s right to dignity and good health and Founder of Breaking the Silence Campaign has been featured in Vodafone Foundation’s Women of Pure Wonder- a coffee table book by Vodafone Foundation was recently launched . This book is a special series focusing exclusively on women empowerment, chronicles tales of 50 inspirational women from across the country who opted to take the road less travelled. Each of these women have overcome several odds – social, cultural, economic, familial – to emerge as a game changer in their chosen field – business, culture, arts, civil rights, media & entertainment, sports, public service etc.
Leaving behind a life of domestic violence, this lady chose to take control of her future and has now become an inspiration for women to look up to. Urmila Chanam from Manipur has won a global award, Voices of Our Future Award by World Pulse, a social networking platform that connects women from 190 countries across the world with a vision to amplify women’s voices to speed up change and improve the lives of millions around the world. Chanam from Manipur was one among three women from across the world who received the award. She received the award for utilizing technology to achieve high impact on community issues of menstrual hygiene and thereby breaking the stigma attached to menstruation.
