The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Meghalaya Unit on Tuesday brushed aside rumours revolving around rebel-turned politician, Julius Dorphang’s intention to join the Saffron Brigade.

Sources have said that the arrest of the Mawhati MLA has embarrassed a lot of political parties that he was seen hobnobbing with in the build up to the 2018 assembly elections in the state.

There have been reports stating the intentions of Dorphang, the co-accused in the rape of a 14 year old Ichamati girl, to join the BJP after he was repeated spotted with BJP members on various occasions.

It may be mentioned that Julius Dorphang, an independent candidate from Mawhati was arrested recently for his alleged involvement in the sexual exploitation of a minor girl in two different places, and is now under 5-day police custody.

When contacted, BJP Meghalaya unit General Secretary, David Kharsati rubbished the reports as rumors’ with a big ‘No’

While denying the reports, Kharsati however, pouched on Julius’s recent arrest stating that Mawhati legislator and co-accuse of the sex racket involving a minor, Julius Dorphang’s name should be removed from the list of legislators of the state Assembly by the speaker.

“He (Julius) being an elected representative and indulging in such activities has brought shame to the society and to all legislators of the state,” said Kharsati adding that the speaker should remove his name from the list of legislators.
