Mizoram: Aizwal Resident captured for possession of Drugs worth a crore

Trapped under debt and with responsibility to take care of two young children, Lalmuankima, a resident of Aizawl, was struggling to make ends meet. Then a chance to earn Rs 10,000-12,000 per trip came as a blessing for the 28-year-old, and before he knew it, Lalmuankima had become a carrier for an inter-state drug cartel.

The saga finally came to a head on Monday, when a team of Delhi Police’s Special Cell arrested Lalmuankima while he was receiving a consignment of over 22 kg Ephedrine, worth a crore. He was to deliver it to a Nigerian, who would have supplied it to rave parties across the Capital. Lalmuankima’s family has been informed about his arrest and the police are trying to unearth more details about the syndicate.

The senior officers said they received an input that a big drug consignment will come to the Capital from Punjab through a carrier, before being distributed in other areas. “A team of the Special Staff, led by ACP Akhileshwar Yadav, then spotted an Esteem car in Dwarka. The team saw that the driver, who was later identified as Ashok Kumar, stepped out of the vehicle and met Lalmuankima. Both opened the car’s boot and pulled out a packet. Lalmuankima took it and started to move. The team acted immediately and overpowered the duo,” DCP, Special Cell, Sanjeev Yadav said.

During questioning, it was revealed that Ashok had brought the drugs to the Capital from Punjab. “Lalmuankima said he came in contact with Mona, who lives 3-4 km from his house in his native village in Aizawl. Seeing his poor financial condition, Mona lured him into the trap,” a senior officer said.

Ashok, a resident of Delhi, earlier worked as a cheque clearing agent for a renowned bank. Later, he started supplying medicines on 20 per cent commission, and slowly graduated to delivering drugs.

This was Lalmuankima’s second trip to Delhi. He had come once before 20 days ago. He said he was given Rs 5,000 to bring the drugs to Delhi and rest Rs 5,000 were to be given to his family once the consignment reached the Nigerian.

DCP Yadav said efforts to nab the kingpin of the cartel and others involved were being made. Following the arrests, many raids were conducted across the Capital and other parts of the country to unearth the syndicate’s reach.
