A new political party, the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) was formed yesterday at Chumukedima near Dimapur in Nagaland at its first general body meeting.
The new party christened Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) was formed under the initiative of veteran Naga politician and former Lok Sabha MP Chingwang Konyak and sitting Lok Sabha MP and former three-time Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio. Konyak has been elected the founding president of the party. He had recently resigned from the NPF, but the ruling party claimed that he was never its member.
The DPP held its first general body meeting at Chumukedima and elected its new office bearers. The party will be formally launched in June after registering with the Election Commission of India.
With the party’s first official statement, DPP President Chingwang Konyak and Vice President Nuzota Swuro informed that in the meeting the party elected its founding office bearers.
They are DPP president, Vice-Presidents Dr Chumben Murry, Mr K. Sukhalu, Dr Sukhato and Mr Menuovilie, besides Mr Nuzota Swuro, Secretary General Abu Metha, Treasurer John Murry, General Secretaries Rusemtong Longkumer, Benjamin Lorin and Pausi Zeliang, it said.
