Sep 09, 2017 06:09

Governor P B Acharya has written to Union Minister of Health & Family Welfare Jagat Prakash Nadda for allotment of at least five more MBBS seats in addition to the existing number of seats to Arunachal Pradesh.

In his letter, the Governor stated that Arunachal Pradesh, like Mizoram and Nagaland do not have medical colleges and as a result of which the state has to send its students to Medical Colleges of other States to pursue MBBS courses.

Every year, a minimum of 25 seats are allotted to the State, the Governor said.

The Governor noted that lesser numbers of MBBS seats have been allotted to Arunachal Pradesh this year while three MBBS seats sponsored by North Eastern Council (NEC), Shillong for Arunachal Pradesh in Medical Colleges of Assam have been withdrawn.

The Governor requested the Union Minister to intervene to make up the deficiency by allotting at least 5 additional MBBS seats to Arunachal Pradesh. (PRO to Governor)
