Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu on Thursday called on Medical Council of India (MCI) president Dr Jayshree Mehta at New Delhi and advocated for early operationalization of the state’s first medical college at Itanagar.

Khandu gave details of the present status of infrastructure development as well as administrative and faculty set up of the Tomo Riba Institute of Health and Medical Science (TRIHMS), designated to be the first medical college of Arunachal Pradesh. He assured the MCI President that all requirements as per the guidelines will be positively met and all existing deficiencies will be fulfilled.

The MCI President appreciated the consistent persistence of the Chief Minister and assured all help. It is now expected that the Medical College will start soon.

It may be recalled that the first medical college of the state was pending since 2015. For this the government vacated many government offices from the old Secretariat and old State Assembly Complex in the heart of town and also allotted 150 acres in the vicinity for future expansion of the institute.

A day earlier, Khandu had called on the Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda to request his intervention to get the academic session started at TRIHMS from the coming session.

The Chief Minister was accompanied by Principal Resident Commissioner Jeetendra Narayan and Health Commissioner Kaling Tayeng.
