Angarag Mahanta, Kalpana Patowary, Zubeen Garg, Shaswati Phukan

The one man who enthralled not only Assam and the northeast with his melody but also left a mark nationally and internationally is undoubtedly the legendary Dr. Bhupen Hazarika.  Bollywood was mesmerized by Dr. Hazarika’s compositions in Kalpana Lajmi’s Rudaali. The haunting Dil hoom hoom kare sung by another legend Lata Mangeshkar and also by Dr. Hazarika himself continues to be one of the classics in Indian film music. His finesse was also felt in Daman and Gaja Gamini.

On a more commercial level too singers from Assam have made their mark in Bollywood over the past two decades. Their styles and genre have been different, but all of them have managed to have their share of fanfare. We list some of them here
