Hailakandi legislator of the All India United Democratic Front’s Anwar Hussain Laskar on Thursday alleged that the district administration of Hailakandi has not provided proper information regarding the flood affected areas.

Addressing a press conference here on Thursday, Laskar claimed that he had the original data of flood affected areas in his home constituency.

The MLA, while producing a fact sheet during the press conference, said, “A total of 55 villages out of 64 in Hailakandi, 73 villages out of 87 villages in Lalam, 90 villages out 110 in Katlichera and 66 villages out of 69 in Algapur have been reeling under flood waters.”

Laskar demanded a special package of Rs 500 crore for flood-affected Hailakandi while he refused to speak on the flood situation of other places of the State.

Bringing allegations against the previous Congress Government in the State, Laskar said, “I won’t take any ministers’ name, but I have data that during the Congress rule in the State, there was a huge scam related to purchase of drinking water vehicles in Hailakandi.”

Laskar further came down heavily on former Assam Forest Minister and Congress leader Rakibul Hussain and said, “Rakibul Hussain has politicised the flood issue instead of rescuing people.”

He said, “Rakibul Hussain visited the flood affected Hailakandi only to take selfies. The relief camps which were set up for the flood affected people, schools and several villages have been reeling under flood waters since June 14.”

Responding to a question on embezzlement of funds allocated for relief materials for the people, Laskar said, “Whenever we got any information about such incidents, we immediately lodged FIRs against the persons involved in fund irregularities. The police have arrested a total of six persons for their involvement in such act till date.”

He also urged the State Government to waive the agriculture loans taken by the farmers keeping in view the prevailing situation in Hailakandi.
