A family member of a top public representative affiliated to the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is among the 21 ACS, APS and allied service officers who are likely to fall in the net of Dibrugarh Police in an ensuing crackdown vis-à-vis the cash-for-job scam in the Assam Public Service Commission (APSC). However, it is feared that the political development featuring the name of the ward of the ruling party’s senior leader may delay the crackdown.
If sources are to be believed, the senior BJP leader, who is believed to be very close to the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), is mobilizing his political clout at the highest level, to avert the embarrassment. The answer scripts of the ward of the senior BJP leader in question have been found to be fake, and were printed in the set up owned by Rajib Paul, the brother of arrested former chairman of the APSC Rakesh Paul.
“A lot has gone in the political milieu centring the involvement of the ward of the senior BJP leader. It would be interesting to see how the Sarbananda Sonowal-led Government handles the situation,” sources told this reporter.
“As it is about his ward, the BJP leader is understandably leaving no stone unturned to avert the humiliation,” sources said.
Earlier too, relatives of politicians were caught on the wrong foot and had to face arrest for securing job by payment of money or using political connection.
However, this would be for the first time that a ward of a ruling party politician would face the heat.
Meanwhile, Dibrugarh Police today filed another supplementary charge-sheet in connection with the cash-for-job scam in the APSC against two more accused Government officers, informed Special Public Prosecutor BK Mahajan.
The charge-sheeted officers are Vikash Kumar Pincha and Manas Pratim Haloi.
This is the fourth charge-sheet filed so far in connection with the scam by investigating officer Surjeet Singh Panesar, who was accompanied by assistant investigating officer Subhasish Baruah.
Already 44 arrests have been made in connection with the case.
