Manipur’s IBSD Wins ASEAN Leadership Award for Sustainable Development

The Institute of Bioresources and Sustainable Development (IBSD) in Imphal, Manipur has won the ASEAN Sustainability Leadership Award for 2016 in the field of Academic Leadership for its outstanding contribution in the field of Sustainable Development.

A  National Institute of Department of Biotechnology, IBSD won the award which was received by Dinabandhu Sahoo, Director, IBSD at Manila, Philippines on Thursday. The function was organized at the Hotel Marriott in Manila where more than 200 delegates participated in the ceremony.

Receiving the Award,  Sahoo thanked the organizers and the people of the ASEAN countries for recognizing the contribution of IBSD at the international level. He said that the Indo -Myanmar region which is amongst top 10 Biodiversity Hotspots in the world has a lot of opportunities to offer in terms of biodiversity, jobs and ecosystem services.

He also said that the region needs to be protected.  Prof Sahoo said that IBSD’s responsibility has increased now after getting the prestigious award and added that they will have to work much harder now. He also thanked the people of Northeast India for reposing faith on the Institute.

Indian company ITC who won the award in the field of supply chain and Singapore Port Authority were other notable award winners.
