Manipur health minister L Jayantakumar Singh said on Wednesday that the state government would check the various food items coming in from Myanmar and Bangladesh to ensure that there are no health hazards. Various other food items, like fruits and ice-packed fish coming from different parts of the country, would also be scanned for safety, Jayantakumar added while interacting with journalists on health-related issues at his office chamber.
Packaged food comes into Manipur in huge quantities from the neighbouring countries of Myanmar and Bangladesh. Important details, such as manufacturing and expiry dates and nutritional ingredients, are not clear for the food packages coming in from Myanmar because of their local language.
