Manipur: State Cabinet Approves 2 Social Security Schemes

The Manipur Cabinet recently organized a meeting that was headed by the Chief Minister, N Biren Singh. The meet was conducted to approve the proposals of implementing the Social Security Schemes in the state.

The meeting covered every point of development

The Chief Minister of Manipur and the state cabinet under him conducted a meeting to have a discussion on the proposals for an effective implementation of the Social Security Schemes.

The meeting resulted in the acceptance and approval of two Social Security Schemes; one is the Chief Ministergi Sottharabasingi Tengbang (CMST) and the other is Hakshelgi Tengbang.

Talking about the first scheme, CMST will provide allowance/maintenance grant to people registered and those having a high degree of disabilities. It will also provide self-employment loan with subsidy/grants to those who can receive skill training. Scholarships to students with disabilities, free travel concession to differently-abled persons and maintenance grant to homeless older persons will also be provided.

The scheme will be notified under Section 24 (3) (i) of the Rights of the Persons with Disabilities (RPwD) Act, 2016 in order to make it strong in terms of the law.

On the other hand, the second scheme, Hakshelgi Tengbang (Manipur Health Protection Scheme) will provide free medical treatment during the time of hospitalization to the poverty-stricken people and the families below poverty line.

Under this scheme, the beneficiaries will be entitled to claim medical coverage up to Rs. 2 lakhs per family per year.

Adding to this, in the direction of Education the cabinet also decided to obtain a No Objection Certificate (NOC) to four schools of the state and allowed them affiliation to the Central Board of Education(CBSE).

In the meeting, the cabinet also took some steps towards the upliftment of All Manipur Working Journalists’ Union (AMWJU). They decided to exempt the Premium partially related to the land allotted to them for the establishment of a Press Colony.
