A nostalgic moment awaited the students and the parents of IIM-Shillong as they waited with bated breaths to receive their degree from the premier business institute of India, IIM-Shillong on April 16, 2018. Beaming with happiness, the students accompanied by their parents were the centre of attraction of all who were present at the venue. But the event was marked with another special moment as it also witnessed the Vice President of India, Venkaiah Naidu’s 1st visit to the campus as well as the state as the chief guest of the function.
While the students sat with mixed feelings- happiness on reaping the benefits of their hardwork as well as sorrow at the fact that they would be leaving their beloved campus as well as their student life behind, the VP was quick to lift up their spirits with his witty one liners while imparting a message to them.
“Instead of looking for jobs, you all must use your training and abilities to create job opportunities and become entrepreneurs. Never forget that you will not only impact the lives of people in your organizations but also the lives of many others who depend on the livelihood of your direct employees”, the VP said. He urged the students to take pride in their roots while emphasizing upon the importance of the mother tongue without disregarding the significance of learning other languages as well.
