World Religions: Prospects and Challenges seminar held at Tura Don Bosco College

As the country continues to drown in the whirlpool of hatred, communal and religious differences, a need to move beyond the clash of ideologies and interests is imperative if the country is to move ahead.

With an aim to invoke a sense of communal and religious harmony, the department of philosophy, Don Bosco College, Tura on Thursday organized a day long seminar with the theme “World Religions: Prospects and Challenges”.

During the programme, students presented five papers on “the Basic Concept of Religion”, “Tribal Religion”, “Hinduism”, “Christianity” and “Islamism” while stressing on the importance and the basic definition of religion.

Addressing the gathering as the chief guest, Former Principal of B. Ed College, Rongkhon Dr. Manav Deb exhorted the students to be channels of spreading joy and happiness in and around.

Meanwhile, the Principal of the Don Bosco College,Tura Rev. Fr. Bivan R. Mukhim highlighted on the relevance and importance of religions in the world today. He stressed on the need to understand and respect other’s religion.

As many as 150 students of 1st, 3rd and 5th semester of Philosophy took part in the event. The programme ended on a colourful and cultural note.

Others who were present at the occasion included — Don Bosco College Vice principal Fr. Albert D. Sangma, Sisters, faculty members from various departments besides others.
