Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio today said that a resolution of the Naga problem would be a win-win situation for the entire North East even as he ruled out integration of Naga-contiguous areas with neighbouring States. The Nagaland Chief Minister, who called on Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh at North Block here this afternoon, told newsmen that he discussed issues relating to natural disasters and the Naga political question. “The desire of the people is that a solution should come. At least negotiations have taken place for 21 years and they should come to an end and a solution should be found,” Rio said.

The Naga Accord should be settled. “We want peace and we want ceasefire. The Naga nationalist groups were agitating because of a raid. Therefore, every party has to understand the other party’s difficulties. They have been negotiating in this regard since yesterday,” he added.

The working committee of the Naga National Political Groups (NNPGs) had last week decided to suspend negotiations with the Government of India. The NNPGs comprise the armed groups which have signed ceasefire agreements with the Centre. Their decision came after an emergency session was held following a raid on a member’s house on June 2.

Asked when he expects the Naga Accord to be signed, Rio said nobody can give a date though they are anxious and want a solution to the Naga political problem.

Replying to questions about greater Nagalim, Rio said it is understood by everybody that the desire of the Nagas is for integration of all Naga-inhabited areas. But at present, other States have not agreed to be a part of the Naga solution. Therefore, though the demand is genuine, it is not possible to physically integrate the Naga-contiguous areas. The resolution of the Naga political problem will be a win-win situation for all, said Rio.
