LPG cylinders would be used for preparing mid day meals in 300 of the total schools in the State covered under Mid Day Meal Programme, one of the Flagship Programmes by the Government of India, starting from the next academic session.
The step has been introduced to provide an environmental friendly and clean source of fuel to prepare the meals in the schools selected for the first phase.
A source from the Education Department pointed out that arrangements have been made to provide a sum of Rs 5500 each to the 300 selected schools in order to procure the LPG cylinders and other essential amenities from the Indian Oil Corporation, IOC.

The initial LPG connection should be under the name of the school and subsequent refilling would be done under the same name.
The costs of each refills would be deducted from the amount provided to the schools based on the number of students for buying fuel, it added.
