The West Tripura District Committee of CPI(M) today hit the streets along with hundreds of CPI(M) activists to protest against the increase of taxes on petrol, diesel and cooking gas prices in the recent state budget which was presented on the floor of the house on 19th June.
The protest rally was led by MP Jharna Das Baidya, MP Sankar Prasad Baidya, Ex-Minister Manik Dey and Ex- Deputy Speaker Pabitra Kar. The rally began from Melarmath situated CPI(M) office and gathered at Paradise Chowmani where the leaders have given speeches and demanded immediate rejection of tax on fuel price which will also lead to the increase in prices of other commodities. They have also demanded that the government to take back the decision of subsidy cut in ration.
Earlier, the Deputy Leader of the assembly Badal Choudhury had also portrayed his dissatisfaction in the hike of petrol and diesel as well as hike in LPG prices.
On the other hand Tripura Pradesh Congress President, Birajit Sinha also commented on the issue saying that ” Increase in fuel prices is equivalent to cutting off someone’s head”.
Though the Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb has termed this budget to be historic budget for the state of Tripura, the dissatisfaction portrayed by the opposition seems to reflect otherwise.
