The Indigenous People’s Front of Tripura’s (IPFT) decision to go it alone in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections has not gone down well with the coalition party, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Tripura.

The BJP on Tuesday categorically stated that the IPFT’s decision to fight the general elections alone will not make any adverse impact on the party’s poll prospect for Lok Sabha elections slated for early next year.

The party leadership was quick to react stating that the BJP being a national party has supporters across the State.

The decision of BJP to contest in both Lok Sabha seats in Tripura was first announced by Sunil Deodhar on June 21.

The party later announced two sub-committees for the two Lok Sabha seats with State Education Minister Ratan Lal Nath and BJP general secretary Rajeev Bhattacharya in-charge of East Tripura Lok Sabha constituency and Health Minister Sudip Roy Barman and party general secretary Pratima Bhowmik in charge of the West Tripura parliament seat.

Notably, the IPFT leadership on Monday announced that the party would contest both seats of Tripura on its own.

The IPFT leadership was of the view that as the BJP had decided to contest both the seats without consulting them, they have taken the decision to contest on their own.
