The single most powerful tool that mankind has having the potential to overcome all miseries in life and make the world a better place to live in is education. Education not only presents before us an entirely new perspective of live but also helps mitigate the daily struggles and hardships that today are an added feature of being alive. And the place where it all starts is a school, which makes a school the most vital institution in a man’s life. It doesn’t really matter how big or how small one’s school is. What eventually matters is how a school moulds its students to face the world outside and it is this feature of a school which makes all the difference. In this write-up, we take a look at some of North east India’s top schools which have over the years created a special niche for itself.

St. Edmund’s School in Shillong (Meghalaya) is an all-boys school affiliated to ICSE, New Delhi. This school, considered one of the very best in the North East, was established in the year 1916 by the Congregation of Christian Brothers in Laitumkhrah, Shillong. Known for the quality education it imparts to its students, it is one of the most sought after schools in the region. The tradition of producing the Who’s who of Shillong hasn’t stopped for this school.

Established in the year 1979, St Stephen’s is among the most well-known co-educational institutions of the largest city of Assam. Affiliated with the state education board (SEBA), the school has over the years grown from strength to strength. Not only does the school excels in making its students sound in the field of education but also is a name to go with in the extra-curricular sector. The school has a rich history in inter school, state and even national level events in activities like quizzing, music and talent searches and is among a handful of schools in the north east to have received the ‘International School Award’ instituted by the British Council for the session 2017-2020. The school does full justice to its motto, ‘Deeds not words.’

Holy Cross School, Agartala

Established in the year 1970 by the Fathers of Holy Cross, this school affiliated with ICSE is one of the more popular educational destinations of the state of Tripura. The school has a three pronged objective list by which it aims to educate the heart and mind. They are by-

  • Upholding culture and traditions
  • Advancing in sports and games

The school has undoubtedly earned a special place for itself in the education scenario of Tripura.

Established in the year 1983 at Midland, Dimapur in the state of Nagaland, it is a co-educational institution which has classes till class XII. Little Star School tries to impart the teachings of the Christ into the daily chores of the students. The school has boarding facilities for both boys and girls and over the years has developed into a premier choice institute in the town.

Established in the year 1995 by the Williamson Magor Education Trust, this co-educational boarding school has consistently been a top name in the education sector of the north east. State of the art infrastructure amidst the sprawling campus surrounded by greens throughout make for an enchanting view and is easily one of the most scenic campuses the country has. All round development of its students is the chief fulcrum about which the curriculum of the school rotates and the results speak for themselves.
