Sikkimese filmmaker Samten Bhutia’s Nepali movie ‘Taandro’ has been selected for the 14th Dhaka International Film Festival 2016 to be held in January next year. The upcoming production has been selected to compete in the Asian competition among seven sections of the festival.
Samten, 38, expressed his happiness saying the film will entertain the audience with something untold and unheard.
Produced by Satish Kumar Gautam, ‘Taandro’ is based on a book ‘Smriti Ko Dobhharu’ by Ganga Bahadur Lama and has Daya Hang Rai in the lead role.
It revolves around a member of an ultra-leftist insurgency group who is forced to take shelter in a village after serious injury in an armed ambush by government forces. With his life hanging in balance and the villagers blaming him for the death of one of their own in the ambush, he is left all alone to deal with the pain and disturbing thoughts and visions, according to the filmmaker.
Organised by Rainbow Film Society since 1992, the Dhaka festival aims at creating better understanding of the films of the world in an atmosphere of appreciation of the film culture and to move towards excellence of the motion picture art and industry.
In 2013, Samten’s film ‘Letter’ was nominated in 6th Nepal Film Technician Association- NEFTA Film Awards in the year 2013.
