Gangtok is a traveller’s paradise as it has something for everyone. You can go shopping till your feet start to hurt, go pub-hopping with friends, try adventure sports and more. If that doesn’t convince you enough to pack your bags then these 5 reasons should do the trick –
#1 HOW ABOUT A YAK RIDE?
Situated 35 km from Gangtok and at an altitude of 12,310 feet is the beautiful Tsongmo Lake where you will find yaks wearing colourful woollen knitwear over their horns and foreheads. They also have string of bells fastened around their necks. You can sit on one of these yaks and go for a ride around the lake or even go up the mountain. Where else can you enjoy such a surreal experience?
#2 FLY LIKE A BIRD
Explore the snow-capped peaks while soaring through the air like a bird. How, you ask? There are many spots in Gangtok that offer paragliding. A certified pilot will help you steer the glider. You can choose between two types of gliding – medium fly and high fly. As the names suggests one offers medium-altitude flying while the other offers high-altitude flying experience.
#3 ENJOY THE ROPEWAY THRILL
The cable car in Gangtok has been operational since 2003, and is pretty popular among tourists. About 24 people can enjoy a ride together, although there are no actual seats. The ride is a kilometre long, with 3 stations in-between. The three stations are Deorali, Namnag and Tashiling and you can get off in any station. We suggest a two-way ride to enjoy the gorgeous view.
