Tough competition between CPIM-BJP+IPFT

As the voting for 59 out of 60 Assembly seats held in Tripura on February 18, the political parties in the competition soon after the voting day started chalking out strategies to win in the state.

To form a government in the state, a political party or a coalition needs more than 30 seats or legislators to win in a majority.

For this, the parties are planning to form a post-poll alliance with the political groups having similar ideologies.

However, the Bhartiya Janata Party has already formed a pre-poll alliance with the tribal party in the state, Indigenous People’s Front of Tripura(IPFT).

After this alliance, the votes might have been scattered between the ruling party and the alliance that has formed in the state ahead of elections.

Therefore, there is a tough competition between the party ruling the state for more than two decades and the party that is trying to gain a strong foothold in the with the help of Regional party in the state.

What Opinion Poll says?

In Tripura, the main contest seems to be between the ruling Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which tied up with Indigenous Peoples Front of Tripura (IPFT).

The Congress, a major force till a few years ago, is unlikely to emerge as the principle opposition.

While an exit poll predicted victory for the BJP alliance, ending the 25-year run of the Left Front in the state, another forecasted a close fight between the two parties.
