Tripura to emerge as major information technology hub

Tripura is gearing up to emerge as a major centre for Information Technology.

The Central Government has decided to set up three BPO hubs in the state to promote BPO services.

The State is also going to see some more major initiatives including one Software Technology Park which will open employment opportunities for the educated unemployed youths of the State.

This was assured by Union Minister for Electronics and Information Technology, Ravi Shankar Prasad, when state Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb called on him in New Delhi during his recent visit.

The Union Minister also assured that steps will be taken to open the BPO hubs ‘as early as possible’.

Ravi Shankar Prasad, it is learnt, also requested the Chief Minister to activate the Common Service Centre (CSC) in all the gram panchayats by setting-up wi-fi hubs in various locations so as to promote the internet connectivity in the CSC’s and assured all co-operation from his side.

The Union Minister also assured all support for extending e-hospital projects in all the district hospitals in the State on priority basis, digital locker and promoting Umang projects.

The Minister, it is learnt, also requested the State Chief Minister to launch a digital literacy drive across the State.

The Chief Minister also met several other union ministers including the External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj, Minister for Road Transport, Shipping and Water Resources Nitin Gadkari, Minister for Railways Piyush Goyal, Minister for Commerce and Industries and Civil Aviation Suresh Prabhu, Minister for Health and family welfare J P Nadda and Minister of State(IC) for Tourism, K J Alphones.

It is also learnt that the union ministers during their meetings had sanctioned several projects for Tripura including extending and widening of national highways, construction of two dams in the upstream of Howra River to mitigate the flood problem of Agartala.
