2. Mizoram’s MZP Opposes Mosque Construction in Mizoram

The largest student body in Mizoram, the Mizo Zirlai Pawl (MZP) opposed the construction of a mosque in a plot of land given by a woman in central Serchhip town in Mizoram.

5. Meghalaya Congress-led govt will be no more in 2018, a hopeful Amit Shah says

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) President Amit Shah on Saturday said that the Congress-led Meghalaya government is set to go in 2018.

Addressing a rally, Shah said, "I want to extend special new year greetings to people of Meghalaya because I know the Congress government is set to depart in 2018 and a BJP government will arrive".

6. Celebrities will have to be careful of which ads they appear in

A new bill means that most celebrities will face up to 3-year ban for endorsing misleading advertisements.

The bill provides for up to two years’ jail term and Rs 10 lakh fine for manufacturers making false claims in ads. This could go up to 5 years Rs 50 lakh for repeat offenders. .

The Consumer Protection Bill 2018 seeks a complete overhaul in consumer rights, especially in areas of e-commerce, direct-to-consumer selling and advertisements.

It also lays the ground for the creation of a new regulator, a central consumer protection authority. Read More...
